Dead Priest Had Legal Counsel

Police in Hudson say a priest found hanging outside his rectory obtained a public defender after he was questioned about an unsolved double homicide.

Hudson detectives recently interviewed Father Ryan Erickson about the unsolved shooting deaths of two people at a Hudson funeral home in February of 2002.

Hudson police issued a statement today saying that after investigators first interviewed Erickson, the priest obtained legal counsel through the Wisconsin Public Defender's Office.

The statement says police weren't able to speak to Erickson again before the priest was found dead Sunday morning in the northern Wisconsin town of Hurley.

The statement doesn't say whether Erickson refused to speak to police again, or died before detectives had the chance.
