Kohl: Medicare Facing Crisis Situation

By  |

During a discussion in Eau Claire, Kohl told area business leaders social security will still pay full benefits for the next 40-or-50 years.

He thinks there won't be social security reform in that time, and says the program will pay almost 80 percent of its benefits in another 50 years.

"If you wanna, in my opinion, engage in a problem that needs immediate attention, it's the cost of health care...runaway cost of health care, runaway obligations that we have over the next 75 years."

The senator said Medicare's unfunded liabilities going forward will prove to be seven times that of Social Security during the next 75 years.
