Walther Brings Home Third Place

Jared Walther placed third in his first trip to the state Junior Science, Engineering and Humanities Symposium.

He's studied subwoofers and automobile acoustics for more than five years now, and said he was thrilled to present his research after the other eight finalists in Madison thursday.

"It was nice to be able to see everyone else's presentations because everyone else had been there for past symposiums to watch, and then competed in it.

"I don't know if I'm as excited as the teachers and everyone else around here, but it's a good time...It's nice being recognized for something I probably would have done anyway."

Along with the all-expenses-paid San Diego trip, Walther was awarded a $500 scholarship to a UW school. He plans to attend UW-Platteville in the fall, and major in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Acoustics.
