Lawsuit Against Medford Technical College

By  |

The U-S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing the Northcentral Technical College District Board of Trustees.

It says the board discriminated against 66-year-old William Mattek when considering him for the West Region director. The position was created after the directorship positions in Medford and Spencer were consolidated.

Mattek was previously the West Region-Medford director for three-and-a-half years.

The E-E-O-C says instead the board hired a 35-year-old with less experience.

The E-E-O-C says it investigated the charge of discrimination, found merit and attempted to reach a voluntary settlement with the employer.

Northcentral Technical College President Robert Ernst could not be immediately reached for comment.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 prohibits discrimination against people 40 and older.
