Watch Out When Giving To Tsunami-Related Charities

The attorney general is warning Wisconsin citizens to be wary of fraud schemes directed at donors helping the tsunami victims in Asia.

A-G Peg Lautenschlager says donors should take precautions to send money only to charities with a proven track record.

Sound-alike charities, door-to-door solicitors and online sites should be checked out.

The Web site www.guidestar.org has some tools for checking charities.

The Better Business Bureau also has a list of tips at www.give.org. Among them -- don't give cash, especially to individuals, but rather a check or money order.

Lautenschlager says relief aid workers recommend against sending supplies or food. Most of those items are available in Asia. And, the airports and distribution networks are already clogged
