Wausau High School Coach Faces Sex Assault Charges

A high school girls basketball coach facing charges that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old player has waived the time limit for his preliminary hearing.

Forty-year-old Mitchell King of Marathon has been suspended from his job as girls varsity basketball coach and a social studies teacher at Wausau West High School.

He's charged in Marathon County Circuit Court with ten counts, including nine involving sex with the player.

At the school, Superintendent Charles Skurka says the case has been difficult for the staff and students to deal with, now that classes have resumed after the holiday break.

He says it's put school personnel through something almost like a grieving process, with feelings of hurt and anger.

After waiving the hearing Thursday, King is to be scheduled for trial.
