Departments from across the state are offering help to their colleagues in Chippewa County.
Sheriff Kowalczyk says he's been flooded with calls and e-mails from as far away as Milwaukee and Superior. They’re all from sheriff's departments willing to send reinforcements so Jason Zunker's co-workers can go to his funeral.
Captain Jeff Pettis with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department says his department also offered its support. He says those who worked closest with Zunker need to be there for the funeral.
"We'll do whatever we can, whatever they want to show as much support as we possibly can. I'm planning to go to the funeral, but it depends on who is needed where. I could work a patrol shift. I would rather let my people go than me myself go," says Capt. Pettis.
He says many of his deputies also knew Zunker and his department will also be sending a couple car-loads to Superior for the funeral.
