The second murder trial for a man accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend in Eau Claire has been delayed for three months.
New evidence discovered by prosecutors has resulted in the delay for Evan Zimmermans case.
The 58-year-old La Crosse man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kathleen Thompson on February 26th, 2000.
The two-week trial was scheduled to begin January 31st but will now start April 25th.
The trial will be in Dodge County because of pretrial publicity.
Last month Zimmerman's attorneys asked for the delay to give them time to respond to the new evidence. The delay was granted Thursday.
An Eau Claire County jury convicted Zimmerman during a four-day trial in May 2001 and he was sentenced to life in prison.
But the appeals court ruled in August 2003 that Zimmerman should be granted a new trial because of ineffective counsel.
