Eau Claire police will get new surveillance cameras.
The city council approved the grant for a video mobile command center, long range camera with night vision, three lipstick cameras and money for officer training. The money for equipment is coming from the Department of Homeland Security.
The Eau Claire PD will also get $18,000 in grant money to crack down on drunk drivers. The state grant money comes from the Wisconsin DOT and Bureau of Transportation Safety
Council members also gave unanimous thumbs up to renewing the city's hazardous materials response team contract. The contract will last for three years and provides local help for hazardous material clean up.
The city of Eau Claire agreed to sell a piece of land for the new YMCA building near North Clairemont and Menomonie Street. Zoning is still in the works and Council Member Brandon Buchanon says the YMCA has until the end of the year to pay for the land. The public can still comment on the sale.
If you're driving into Carson Park, you'll see a new sign soon. The city council also approved an electric sign for the city park. It will be larger in size than the current wooden sign. The council also talked about introducing an ordinance that could regulate electric signs such as this one within the city.
And the Blue Angels will be flying high in Eau Claire next fall. Council members cleared the air show for takeoff tonight. The Chippewa Valley Council of the Boy Scouts is putting on the airshow.
