Local Man Rallies Support for "The Responsible Party"

A Vietnam veteran in Eau Claire is trying to rally support for a new political party he's forming. He says it's designed to represent people who are moderate in their political views, as well as their income.

Richard Freitag says his idea to form what he calls "The Responsible Party" came from a television news story on how much money Americans make.

He feels that more than 70% of Americans are in the middle of the road, and not well-represented by a major political party.

"This party wants to make their political appeal to the general public who is not interested in being radical-the only radical thing about us is offering a third choice to the voting public," Freitag said.

Freitag has already held three meetings and written a book about his views, even though the party isn't registered yet.

He's holding another meeting on February 24th at the L.E. Phillips Public Library in Eau Claire. It starts at 7 p.m.
