Duluth-Superior Bridge Crash Involves Cars, Semi-Trucks; One Dead

A baby delivered after a pregnant woman was critically injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up on a bridge between Superior and Duluth, Minnesota, has died.

The baby's mother is one of two women who were critically injured in the crash on the fogged-in Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge.

Authorities said the baby was the only fatality. The baby's mother, a 30-year-old Duluth woman, is in critical condition in St. Mary's Medical Center, along with a 34-year-old Duluth woman. One other woman was hospitalized and three other people were treated and released.

Authorities say 16 cars and three semitrailer trucks were involved in the accident on the bridge that carries U-S Highway 2 across the St. Louis River Thursday morning. The traffic was eastbound to Superior.
