Jodi Nelson is the second person in less than a week to die from smoke inhalation in the Chippewa Valley.
Now, firefighters are trying to get the word out about having working smoke detectors in your home, and being prepared for a smoke emergency.
On Thursday, 24-year-old Lonny Amdahl of Cadott died when a fire started in a home he and a friend tore down.
David Gee with the Eau Claire Fire Department says the best thing to do when smoke fills your home is to get down on the ground and get out as soon as possible.
He suggests planning an escape route with your family or whoever lives in the home with you.
