Leaders with the DNR say hunters donated 9,200 deer this fall to a statewide program that feeds hungry people.
The donations mean about 414,000 pounds of ground venison were distributed to food pantries.
A year ago, hunters donated a record 11,845 deer.
Fewer deer were expected from this fall's hunts after the program was halted in chronic wasting areas in Southern Wisconsin
