The Madison Police and Fire Commission has fired a police officer who received nearly $250,000 in salary and benefits while on paid leave for more than three years.
Grogan pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct for an off-duty incident in December 2004 in which he crashed his car in Waukesha County, kicked in the door of a stranger's home and then fell asleep on the floor.
Grogan was suspended with pay shortly after the incident.
Grogan, 47, can appeal the firing in circuit court but it means he will no longer be paid.
