A Trempealeau County highway worker was taken to the hospital Monday after his leg got stuck in a sand spreader.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on Birch Street in the Town of Strum.

Trempealeau County highway commissioner, Jim Johnson says the man's leg was pinned in the sand spreader that is on the rear of the plow truck.

One the worker's legs was crushed before Strum firefighters and first responders could free him.

He was taken by ambulance to Luther-Midelfort in Eau Claire.

Johnson says the man has worked with the department for 18 years.

His name is not being released at this time.
