Eau Claire County Jail

Following the lead of nearby Dunn and Barron Counties, Eau Claire County is considering proposals ot increase the size of the jail.
Sheriff Ron Cramer says last year, Eau Claire budgetted $200,000 to house inmates in other counties' facilities since Eau claire doesn't have enough cells to hold violent offenders.
He says the facility is outdated, difficult to monitor, and could pose threats to both inmates and the staff. "You need law enforcement. You need a jail and you need to have an appropriate sized jail for the safety of the people who work there," says Cramer.
Along with law enforcement, city and county governments are expected to meet next month to choose one of three proposals that would add on to the facility.
