Businesses around Fort McCoy benefited more last year than in 2003 from the military base.
According to base officials, the total economic impact for last year was around 780-million dollars. That's up by more than 150-million dollars from 2003.
But the news comes at a time when Fort McCoy's future is in question.
The U-S Government is looking at closing or realigning military bases across the country as a cost-savings measure.
A commission will make a recommendation to the White House this fall.
Governor Jim Doyle is fighting to keep Fort McCoy and Wisconsin's other four military bases open.
