Local Catholics Pray For the Pope

Well-wishers' prayers for the Pope at The Vatican coincided with monthly services at many Catholic churches around the area. Local priests included their own prayers for the pontiff throughout their short services.

At Sacred Heart Hosptial, a brief service was held this afternoon with almost three-dozen parishioners stopping by. Father Lawrence Dunklee, who led the service, has met the Pope three times during his visits to the United States.

"I think his ability to connect with people has been something people remember, especially the young people...I think that will also be part of his legacy," Father Dunklee said.

Officials at Sacred Heart plan to honor Pope John Paul the Second with a moment of silence once he passes away.
