Finding the right daycare is always a process, but for parents who work at night, it can be a nightmare.

Now some daycares in Chippewa Valley are stretching their hours to accommodate those families.

It might seem as easy as your 123's or your ABC's but not many daycares are able to keep an eye on children during second shift hours.

The director of child resource and referral, Dotty Lillo says the Western Dairyland program, which encompasses 10 counties, has set up daycares for nearly 2,000 parents last year.

464 parents requested second-shift care.

ABC Daycare & Preschool in Dunn County is starting to do just that to help with the balancing act of having a fulltime job and being a full time parent.

There are a lot of businesses in town, like clinics, where people work second shift, so we thought we'd open it up to their children who don't usually get to be a part of the program.

The preschool program will also shift into the p.m.

Owner, Kelly Scherr said, "We will take the preschool program and run it into the evening so that those kids would have the educational benefit.”

Scherr says it's seen a great response from the community.

"I get calls everyday for second shift so I think it will grow pretty fast."

For parents who have a 9 to 5 job, some are still taking part in the offer.

“I'm excited, because now my husband and I can start dating again,” Laura Short said.

And while parents are working away, they'll be able to check up online anytime.

Cameras will allow parents to see what their kids are up to with just a click of a mouse.

"It shows something on the daycare's part that they have nothing to hide and that I can see my kids and make sure the programs are safe and educational," Sasha King said.

"It is good for those milestones in our children's lives. Kelly can just call me up and say check the camera and I can see what they are doing developmentally-wise," Short said.

The second shift opens on Monday and the cameras will be working next month, with highly secured usernames and passwords for parents at ABC Daycare.
