Measles Confirmed in Eau Claire

By  |

A case of the rather rare but highly contagious measles virus was confirmed by Eau Claire County health officials today. The case is the first in Eau Claire County in more than fifteen years.

A forty seven year old man--who was never immunized against the illness-- tested positive for the virus after returning from overseas.

The man later attended a 10:30 Sunday service at Trinity Lutheran Church on April 3rd, potentially exposing more than five hundred people to the contagious virus.

People who think they may have been exposed to the virus--which is characterized by a runny nose, high fever, red eyes and a rash that starts at the hairline and spreads across the face--can get a free vaccination at the Eau Claire County Health Department tomorrow from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
