Landfill Expansion Hearing
Lawmakers are holding a public forum in Madison this morning to discuss a plan that would allow greater landfill expansion across the state.
The question will be whether or not landfill operators should be allowed to expand beyond the current state guidelines. The proposal would allow landfill owners to pile trash higher, and dump over a larger area.
Home owners were divided on the issue in the Town of Seymour recently when owners of the Onyx Sevenmile Creek Landfill announced a plan to expand.
Supporters have said expansion is the only way to avoid opening new facilities, but opponents worry about the environmental impact of a bigger dump.
