Autopsy Results for Body in Freezer

Preliminary autopsy results show the body found in a freezer on French Island belonged to an elderly woman who apparently died of natural causes.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department is reporting the autopsy results show the woman died of kidney and heart failure.

Investigators found the body after a 15 hour standoff with Philip Schuth, who says the woman is his mother, Edith, who died in August of 2000.

Schuth allegedly shot at neighbors after a trespassing dispute. Police say Schuth hit a 10 year old in his yard. When the parents confronted him, he shot at them, hitting the father twice in the arm and grazing his face and grazing the mother in the leg.
After he was taken into custody, Schuth told detectives he kept her in the freezer in order to keep receiving her social security checks and because he believed he would be blamed for her death.

Schuth is in La Crosse County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond and is expected to be formally charged next week.
