Feds Looks Into La Crosse Man's Accounts After Deceased Mother Found in Freezer
Federal authorities have started their own investigation into the man who says he hid his mother's body in a freezer for more than four years.
Assistant U-S Attorney John Vaudreuil says Philip Schuth could face a charge of theft of government funds if he's convicted of embezzling his dead mother's Social Security funds.
Schuth told police he hasn't had a real full-time job in years and relies on his mother's checks.
He says she died of natural causes in 2000 so he put her body on ice in a basement freezer. Schuth is in custody after a neighbor says he was the man who shot and wounded him.
Officer found ten-thousand dollars in cash in Schuth's house and $25,000 in an account he shared with his mother.
