Soda Machine Break-in Ring

The Dodge County Sheriff's Department says authorities have broken up a ring that was involved in a rash of soda machine break-ins last year.

Sheriff Todd Nehls says more than a dozen suspects -- including four juveniles -- are involved. He says offenses include thefts from more than 80 soda machines and causing more than $35,000 in damages.

Nehls says virtually every community in the county was a victim.

He says the suspects include six men and two women from Beaver Dam, ranging in age from 18 to 22, plus a 20-year-old woman from Albuquerque, New Mexico and four juveniles.

He says the group's suspected leader -- a 22-year-old from Beaver Dam -- is being held in the county jail on a probation and parole hold. He says the man has a record of previous convictions for burglary.

A multi-jurisdictional task force was created to collect information over three months ago. Nehls says an informant helped them find the suspects.
