A group of western Wisconsin Army Reserve troops who spend a year serving in Afghanistan returned home Wednesday.

Members of the 397th joined an engineering battalion based in Minnesota that built bridges, roads and buildings and also worked to clear mine fields all across the country.
The battalion commander praised the troops' efforts and told them they earned time to rest.

"They really feel like the people there are very happy they're there, both for the security and for the work they're doing just to improve the country," say Lieutenant Colonel Scott Zima.

Sgt. Kyle Nosbisch says the hardest part of the past year was being separated from his loved ones. "First thing I want to do is kick back and relax, just enjoy being home and get to know the area again," says Nosbisch.

The soldiers were mobilized 15 months ago and deployed in May of last year.
