Two In Custody In Killing Of St. Paul Police Officer

St. Paul Police say they believe they have arrested the two men responsible for the fatal shooting of Sergeant Gerald Vick early Friday morning.

Police say 32-year-old Harry Jerome Evans and 27-year-old Antonio Alexander Kelly have been booked on a probable cause charge of murder. Both men are from St. Paul.

Police say investigators made the arrests on the basis of eyewitness identifications.

Police say Vick and Sergeant Joe Strong confronted two men who reportedly had been harassing people outside Eric's Bar on St. Paul's east side. Police say the officers talked with the men and then told them to move on.

As the officers returned to their cars, police say the two suspects approached Vick again and as Strong was walking over to help, one suspect fired several shots that hit Vick.

Police say Strong fired several shots at the suspects as they fled on foot.
