The dunn county board has given its approval to a proposed ethanol plant near Boyceville.
But that decision didn't come until after supervisors had amended the proposal..to make it harder for any new ethanol plants to go up in the county.
The board approved a zoning change that permits ethanol plants on land zoned for industrial use.
Critics said that would make it too easy for other plants to be constructed without county oversight.
So now supervisors included language to make the zoning change specific to the plant proposed in the township of Hay River.
The vote was 22 to four, in favor.
The group building the plant hopes to begin putting out ethanol made from locally grown corn in around a year.
