After a couple of delays, developers of a proposal on Eau Claire's East side have been handed an outright defeat this evening by the City Council.
The Council had a proposal to approve changes to the Waterford Development at the old site of the Eau Claire County Club, including a request to increase the height of the ten-story towers in order to meet building codes.
That portion received six yes votes and four no's, so it failed because it needed eight votes to pass due to a protest petition filed by neighbors.
Council Members opposed to the project felt the developer, the Goldridge Group, did not make enough of an effort to listen to residents' requests.
While those in favor say the project would be good for the city of Eau Claire.
The developers say they will have to discuss the defeat to see how it will affect their project before deciding what to do next.
