In his upcoming budget, Governor Doyle wants to increase the funding to the Department of Transportation.
Secretary Frank Busalacchi said it will expedite important projects to the state, like the construction of Highways 53 and 29.
On a visit to Eau Claire Monday, the secretary and other DOT officials received an update from the project's supervisor, who says the progress isn't always visible. "Once we get through this period of traffic control this summer, next three-four months, I think we'll see a dramatic improvement in how much we're disrupting traffic," says Rick Shermo.
The first section of the construction on 53 is expected to open soon.
Shermo says the new Highway 53 between Highway 29 and OO is slated for completion next month.
