With motorists expected to set new records travelling this holiday weekend, area law enforcement says they'll be aggressively ticketing those violating the law.
The state patrol, Eau Claire County Sheriff's department and Eau Claire Police Department are joining forces to crack down on areas with numerous speeding complaints or traffic crashes.
Enforcement will be not only be high this holiday weekend, but all summer long.
"Speeds are up statewide, fatalities are up statewide and law enforcement is taking this very seriously," says Sgt. Jerry Voight. "We're doing our part to make highways safer but we're asking for drivers to do their part, too."
Sgt. Voight says drivers should pay attention to speeds and following distances, wear seatbelts and drive sober to keep themselves and others on the road safe.
