More than $400,000 has been collected in honor of six Northwoods hunters gunned down last fall.
The Rice Lake Hunters Survivors and Victims Fund will pay for funerals, medical bills, attorneys' fees and college tuition for the victims' children.
And future contributions will go to community projects such as scholarships and hunter education courses.
Thirty-six-year-old Chai Soua Vang is charged with opening fire on the six last November. He remains in the Sawyer County Jail in Hayward.
A group of area builders and contractors will start work in August on Hunters Memorial Park, which will include a monument to the slain hunters, for which area businesses and groups have donated thousands in materials and work.
Vang's trial is scheduled for early September.
