Investigators Say Watkins Shot Self in Leg

Police say the Eau Claire man who shot himself in the leg early Sunday morning is a convicted felon who had been drinking.

Investigators say 26-year-old Cassius Watkins was at a relative’s home on Erin Street, but after he left, a cousin noticed Watkins lying on the lawn and called the ambulance around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

It was determined that Watkins had shot himself in the leg with a nine millimeter handgun.

Police say charges are expected to follow, since Watkins was convicted last March of substantial battery and possession of a handgun violates his parole.
