UW-Stout Reverses ROTC Ban

UW Stout's Chancellor says he's reversing his decision to ban the ROTC from campus.

In a press release today, Chancellor Charles Sorensen says since making the decision he's become aware the ban violates not only Board of Regents policy but also federal law, putting at risk significant amounts of federal funding.

Sorenson said no to a request to start a military ROTC program earlier this month because of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

A policy he still says discriminates against gays and is in contrast to the schools goal of diversity.

In order to comply with the law, administrators are now working with ROTC officials at UW-Steven's Point to possibly set up a chapter at Stout.
