MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- University of Wisconsin campuses could discipline students for certain off-campus misconduct under a proposed rewrite of system rules.
The UW System is seeking feedback on the rules, which would be the first revisions of the system's conduct code in more than a decade. The Board of Regents could approve them in April.
The rules spell out the process for taking disciplinary action against students for nonacademic misconduct and govern behavior on university property for students and non-students.
The plan would make clear that campuses can discipline students for off-campus misconduct that "affects a substantial university interest."
The goal is to allow for discipline against egregious and dangerous misconduct.
