MENASHA, Wis. (AP) -- Will Wegner is an Oscar Mayer winner.
The 8-year-old Menasha boy has been named a finalist in Oscar Mayer's 2007 "Sing the Jingle" contest. The victory earns him a trip to California for the "American Idol" finale in May.
Wegner entered the contest by recording himself singing the deli-meat company's hot dog and bologna jingles during a Wienermobile stop in Wisconsin Dells last fall. His entry was among 18,000 taped nationwide.
In addition to winning the California trip, Will receives $5,000 and a separate trip to Los Angeles to film an Oscar Mayer commercial.
Wegner was one of four national finalists in the category of solo English performance. Separate winners were named in the categories of group singing and Spanish performances.
