Wisconsin Tribal Casino Profits Up

An audit of Indian gambling in Wisconsin finds profits climbed 23 % in the last four years.

The new audit of the state Division of Gaming says the state received nearly 70 million dollars from the tribes for the 2004 fiscal year.

That's up from around 25 million the year before.

The Legislative Audit Bureau reviewed independent financial audits submitted by the eleven tribes.

The bureau says it's hard to predict future tribal payments, however, because the state is renegotiating the deals with the tribes after the state Supreme Court invalidated parts of them last year.

The tribes generated more than a billion dollars in revenue from the casinos last year and had profits of more than 500 million dollars.
