He's a teacher, a law enforcement officer and an environmentalist all in one. And his co-workers say he's the best in the state.
DNR Conservation Warden Scott Bowe recently won the Haskell Noyes Conservation Warden Efficiency Award.
DNR wardens around the area say Bowe has the personality and flexibility to be an outstanding warden.
They say he deserves being called the number one warden in the state of Wisconsin.
Whether he's investigating the scene of an accident, teaching hunter safety, or attending a sportsmen’s club meeting, Chippewa County Conservation Warden Scott Bowe says he loves going to work.
"That's part of why the job is so fun, because you're not doing the same thing day after day,” said Bowe.
"He's just a superb warden. He's a great investigator,” said DNR Regional Director Scott Humrickhouse.
Bowe's supervisor told him he won the Haskell Noyes Conservation Warden Efficiency Award two weeks ago Monday.
That was the same day he brought his newborn son home from the hospital.
"It was a pretty exciting weekend,” said Bowe.
The Noyse family has been giving away the award since 1930 to deserving wardens.
Bowe says he's happy to be among the elite.
"You look at some of the names of wardens who have received the award in the past and it's need to be included in the list of wardens,” he said.
Bowe's co-workers say he excels in working with kids...either teaching them safety lessons or organizing outdoor events.
His wife Michele says he works hard at balancing his job with family, and they're pleased with his accomplishments.
"We're very proud of him,” she said, as their daughter shook her head in agreement.
Bowe humbly says he can think of many other wardens who deserve the award, but his co-workers say he's a perfect fit.
"I just can't think of a more deserving recipient of this award,” said Humrickhouse.
Along with the award, Bowe gets a gold pocket watch with the inscription of "faithful and able service."
The Noyes family will present the award to him at a banquet on May 17th.
