Two people accused of animal abuse appeared in a jackson county circuit courtroom.
Jeffrey Hanson and Thairese Johnson are charged with mistreating and intentionally abandoning animals.
Both counts each carry a $10,000 fine and 9 months in jail.
Police say their dog was found alive in a ditch, near the town of Curran, in Jackson county.
It was found with its legs bound with duct tape and what appeared to be a bullet hole on the top of his head.
Both Hanson and Johnson were released on bond and were instructed not to own nor care for any pets or children.
Their next court appearance will be July 12th.
