An inmate who escaped from an Upper Peninsula prison has been arrested in northeastern Wisconsin.
Michigan State Police said Garfield Lawson the Third, 35, was arrested early Monday in Marathon County, Wisconsin. That's about 70 miles southwest of the Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility, where Lawson had been serving a life sentence since 1999.
The 35-year-old Lawson was arrested along with Kathy Lynn Sleep, a 42-year-old food service worker at the prison. She's believed to have helped him escape.
Both are jailed in Marathon County pending extradition to Michigan.
Lawson was serving life sentences on convictions related to altercations with officers at the Saginaw County Jail in 1997 and 1999.
