Fire crews in a La Crosse County town save a pet from a fire.

The Shelby Fire Department was called out about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon to a fire along Mickle Road. Assistant fire chief Wayne Atchley says when crews got there, there was already extensive damage.

Firefighters did rescue the family cat that was stuck inside the home. Atchley says the fire department had to give the cat oxygen after they got it out of the house.

“The family is extremely grateful that the cat was saved and we were able to bring him back," says Atchley.

Atchley says they're still trying to figure out what exactly sparked the fire.
