Phone Scam

If you received a call from someone claiming to be with the Disabled American Veterans asking for money, the state commander says it's fraudulent.

Joe Anderson says the only way the group requests donations is through mailings that come from national headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. The organization is reporting people in the Chippewa Valley have received calls from scammers asking them for money.

"We're mad that someone would actually have the gall to use a disabled veterans organization for their own benefit, their own sick way of making money," says Anderson.

If you believe you have received a similar phone call, Anderson requests you call the organization, based in Green Bay, or contact consumer protection or local law enforcement.
