After 33 years, the La Crosse Municipal Airport is getting a new firefighting tool.

A brand new airport fire truck will replace a truck purchased in 1975.

Airport manager Dan Wruck says the new truck will arrive sometime next month and will be paired with the airports other working fire truck.
Wruck says the new truck will have powerful water turrets, which will allow firefighters to put a fire out, while staying a safer distance away.

"I think it's just great that we'll end up with a newer truck that will enhance our capability if it's ever needed," Wruck said. "Hopefully we'll never need it, but it's nice to know it exists if that requirement ever came."

The new truck costs about $521,000 and was paid for by a small charge built into airline tickets.
