An Appleton-based Army Reserve unit said goodbye to loved ones and headed off for a year of service in Afghanistan.
Family members, veterans gathered for a going-away party Sunday. Cameras captured the last moments at home before 40 soldiers of the 395th Army Reserve left for Fort Wayne, Indiana where they'll meet another reserve unit and travel to Fort Bragg, North Carolina for 6 to 8 weeks of training.
Part of the unit is already is overseas. This deployment will allow that group to come home this summer.
Many of the soldiers have already been overseas. Sergeant Jason Harden is on his second tour of duty, having spent a year in Iraq in 2006.
Harden is taking it in stride, saying service to his country it's what he signed up to do.
