Worries Climb as Fuel Prices Soar

Oil prices hit a record high Friday at $66.86 per barrel.
Meanwhile, Americans are worrying about soaring gas prices -- and many could be facing very real lifestyle changes.
An Associated Press poll suggests nearly two-thirds of those surveyed expect fuel costs will create financial hardship in coming months.
And local residents realize that high prices eat away at incomes in more ways than just at the pump, with surcharges and other costs being passed on to consumers.
Erin Roth of the Wisconsin Petroleum Council says the price per barrel of oil could soon reach $70, and that would translate into about $3 per gallon of gas. He's hopeful as Labor Day approaches, costs will go down.
The run-up is being blamed on a combination of factors: The heavy summertime gas demand, outages at about a dozen U.S. refineries, the busy Atlantic storm season and tensions with Iran.
