UW-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College are again partnering their health care programs in order to help area residents.
Health care administrative students from UW-Eau Claire are working with area nursing homes to arrange for CVTC dental hygiene students to provide care. It not only will help residents receive dental care, but help students to have real world experience.
"Not everyone can get to and clinical site whether because of transportation or other access issues," says Linda Bohacek, a dental hygiene instructor at CVTC. "There's barriers to care."
"This isn't a problem that's just Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls or Menomonie. This is a problem across state and country," says Doug Olson, a professor at UW-Eau Claire for the health care administration department.
The program, expected to start in September, will partner with Dove Health Care, Grace Foundation-Syverson Home, the Clairemont, Oakwood Villa and Chippewa Manor.
Educators are applying for grants, but have also received funding from The Center for Health and Aging Services Excellence contributed funds for an evaluation period earlier this summer.
