Striking Northwest Union Members and Supporters Rally

It's been a week since Northwest mechanics, cleaners and custodians went on strike, and those rallying today say they'll stay on the picket line as long as it takes.

About one-thousand people stood in the hot sun to listen as a string of politicians and union leaders repeated messages of solidarity.

Union officials say no new talks are scheduled with the airline. Many striking union members wore red and white T-shirts saying: "On strike. N-W-A Unfair to Labor."

Strikers brought their families to the rally, which was held at strike headquarters across the interstate from the airport.

All three candidates for Minneapolis mayor and two Democrats running for U-S Senate, Amy Klobuchar and Kelly Doran (DORN), spoke at the rally. They say they support not only striking union members but other unions in the state being threatened by large corporations.
