A Black River Falls man accused of driving drunk and killing his passenger will spend 10 years in prison.

21-year-old Ian Whitegull was also sentenced to five years of extended supervison Tuesday. He pleaded no contest to an amended charge in January.

Investigators say Whitegull tried to pass a logging truck on Highway 54 and County Road K Northeast of Black River Falls last April. They say he clipped it, and rolled his car several times.

17-year-old Lyle Krause was killed. Two others were hurt

Yes, 10 years for taking the life of another, it's a start. But does our so called corrections system provide "researched-based" alcohol and drug treatment that would have a better chance of helping the young man with his obvious substance abuse issues. Locking someone up isn't always the long-term answer.
