Jon Gabrielson says a childhood battle with leukemia and the support he received over two years of successful treatment helped start him on a path he hopes will lead to the office of Appleton mayor.
The 18-year-old says that ever since then he's been willing to help people, and he wants to apply that desire to city hall.
The senior at Appleton East High School filed a campaign registration with the city clerk March 17th to become an official write-in candidate, challenging incumbent Mayor Tim Hanna in next Tuesday's election.
Hanna is otherwise unopposed in his bid for a fourth 4-year term.
