A new system is expected to make travel time on I-94 much faster in construction zones.
The Department of Transportation is implementing a new system on I-94 near the Eau Claire-Dunn county line called intelligent work zone.
The system monitors traffic in the zones and through advanced technology, and a message board, give drivers up to the minute traffic instructions.
"The system is set up so the traffic detectors that are here, monitor traffic constantly and its all feeds into a computer system hosted by one of our contractors, and makes these decisions based on real time data and makes the changes automatically."
Project Development Supervisor, Paul Conlin says the system was piloted last year in Dunn County and will used when construction kicks off this summer.
