A prison guard in Prairie du Chien faces more than 800 years in prison for sexually assaulting inmates.

58-year-old James L. Trentin is charged with 22 counts of sexual assault by a correctional staff member. The Department of Corrections spokesman says it's the biggest case of its kind they've seen. Trentin is also charged with smuggling items to inmates at the Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution, in return for sexual favors.

Special Prosecutor, Tim Gaskell, told us Trentin is accused of bringing in tobacco, alcohol, candy and coffee for the inmates. Gaskell says all the victims are in their late teens and 20's. According to the D.O.C., an inmate told a staff member and they contacted police.

If convicted on all charges, Trentin could face up to 880 years in prison. The D.O.C. says Trentin has been on paid administrative leave since February 1st.
